Royal Norfolk ShoW

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT | PR | CONTENT CREATION

ABOUT THE CLIENT

The Royal Norfolk Show is the UK’s largest two day county agricultural event, bringing together thousands of visitors, charities, local organisations and businesses.

In 2023, I supported the show with social media and content creation, helping build momentum in the lead up and delivering live coverage across the two day event.

THE CHALLENGE

Events move quickly. Social media moves even faster.

In the run up, the focus was on building excitement for events and reaching new audiences online, by showing the event is more than just agricultural shows! There was a lot to communicate, so it was about keeping things clear, engaging and consistent.

Once the event started, the priority shifted to real time content. Spread across Norfolk Showground, with constant activity, a packed schedule, and no second chances to capture key moments.

THE WORK

In the weeks leading up to the show, I created content to promote the event and highlight what visitors could expect. I also mapped out all of the key moments in the programme to ensure equal promotion of events and prepare for the event

During the event, I was on site providing social media support and capturing content as it happened.

This included:

  • capturing photo and video content across the showground

  • covering key moments, sponsorships and award ceremonies

  • creating and sharing content in real time

  • making sure charities and exhibitors were visible online

  • working with local and national press, TV and radio

A lot of the role came down to being responsive, spotting moments quickly, and turning them into content that worked.

On the second day, the show welcomed a visit from Prince William. I supported with photography during the visit, capturing key moments while navigating large crowds and working alongside national press. Fast paced, high pressure, and a good reminder that event content often comes down to being ready for anything.

THE IMPACT

Having dedicated social media support meant the show could share content as it happened, not after. It allowed me to engage with visitors and exhibitors in real time - sharing their social media content, talking to them online, and providing guests with information. It helped bring the event to life online and gave charities, partners and exhibitors more visibility across the two days.

The content templates and photography also continue to be used beyond the event, creating a strong bank of assets for future promotion.

Some of this work was delivered pro bono through the Norfolk Community Foundation’s ProHelp scheme, supporting local charities and organisations. A big part of Create Joy is making sure those organisations have the support they need to show up online.
